Owsley County Schools Special Education Teachers participate in professional learning presented by our friends from KVEC. Teachers have been completing a book study and are practicing new strategies for student success!

Today, during Professional Learning Communities, our 4th-12th grade teachers added powerful reading comprehension and writing-to-learn strategies to their toolbox! They’re eager to bring these strategies into the classroom to support student success.
A Big Thank You to Mr. Addison and his carpentry students, at the Lee County ATC for their magnificent work that is now in our board room.

This evening the Owsley County Board of Education voted to extend the school day by ten minutes, beginning tomorrow Wednesday March 12th. This time will be used to make up for lost instructional time due to flooding and winter weather.
Owsley County High School will dismiss at 2:50.
Owsley County Elementary School will dismiss at 2:55.
Owsley County Headstart and Early Headstart will extend as well.
With the addition of time the tentative last day of school for students will be May 28th.

Class of 2025 Senior Spotlight
Owsley County Varsity Cheerleaders share their love for reading at Owsley County Head Start
On Tuesday March 11th, The Owsley County Board of Education will meet to discuss amending the 2024-25 school calendar by adding 10 minutes of instructional time to the school day beginning on March 12th. If amended, this extra time will be used to make up for the loss of instructional time due winter weather and flooding. This will tentatively move the closing day of school back into the month of May.

Owsley County Judge Zeke Little, Emergency Management Director Jerry McIntosh, and Chief Operations Officer Chad Mason partnered with OCHS BETA students to assess tornado drills at local businesses and schools during Kentucky’s Statewide Tornado Drill.
