🐾 A NEW HOME FOR KAMILLA! 🏀 The Owsley County Lady Owls are incredibly proud to announce that Center Kamilla Marcum has committed to continue her basketball career at Union College as a member of the Bulldogs! 💙🏀 Kamilla was a force last season in the paint for the Lady Owls, leading the 14th Region in both scoring and rebounding. She followed that up with a breakout summer season, showing everyone that she is ready to take her game to the next level. From dominating the boards in an Owsley County uniform to earning the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level, Kamilla’s hard work, determination, and commitment have paid off. Congratulations, Kamilla! 🐾💙 Your Lady Owls family is incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to watch your Senior Season in a Lady Owls uniform and continue to shine as a Union College Bulldog next year! Tonight, at the Owsley County Board of Education meeting, we were proud to recognize Mrs. Tanya Tirey on her retirement after 25 years of dedicated service to Owsley County Schools. We are grateful for the many years she has given to our students, schools, and community. Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Tirey and wishing her much happiness as she begins this well-deserved new chapter.

Mr. Bobrowski’s high school social studies students participated in a trading game to explore how people gain and exercise power and how power shapes politics and government. Great hands-on learning!

Congratulations to Eli Lewis and Dalton Gibson on completing The Kentucky Registered Apprenticeship Program. Eli and Dalton are now journey workers in the field of Information Technology. Thank you to Brian Gupton and Dataseam for their sponsorship of this apprenticeship program at Owsley County High School

Congratulations to 2026 Owsley County High School graduate Isac Lewis on being named a Senator Jeff Green Scholar.

This prestigious recognition is awarded through the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) program to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement throughout high school.

Family Resource Center Advisory Council Meeting August 11, 2026

What a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year for Owsley County Schools! It has been incredible to welcome our students and staff back as we begin another year of learning, growth, and opportunity.

Opening Day marked the beginning of an exciting new school year at Owsley County Schools. We are grateful for the dedication and commitment of our exceptional faculty and staff as we work together to provide the very best opportunities for every student. We look forward to a successful 2026–2027 school year.

Tomorrow, Thursday, August 6, is the first day of school for Owsley County Schools! We are excited to welcome our students and families back for a great year of learning. School hours: * Owsley County Elementary School: 8:05 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. * Owsley County Middle/High School: 8:00 a.m. – 2:40 p.m.

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Jacob McCoy to the Owl Family as our new Middle School LBD Teacher! We are excited to have Mr. McCoy join our staff and work with our students. We know he will make a positive impact in our school through his dedication, compassion, and commitment to helping every student succeed. Welcome to Owsley County Schools, Mr. McCoy! We are excited to have you as part of the Owl Family!

Our teachers had a great day of professional learning with the KVEC team and Staci Holderman! They explored practical strategies they can immediately take back to the classroom to meet students where they are and help every learner move forward. We can’t wait to see these strategies in action this school year!

A Note for Kindergarten Families from the OCES Office Families may walk their kindergarten students into the building on Thursday, August 6, and Friday, August 7. Arrival Procedures * Families may walk their child into the building between 7:45 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. * Please enter through the front office doors. * Park in the bottom parking lot and walk your child through the front office entrance. Beginning Monday, August 10, kindergarten students will no longer be walked into the building. Students should arrive by bus or be dropped off using the parent drop-off line. Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and smooth start to the school year!
