I’m sorry that I will be unable to attend tonight’s back-to-school event at the high school due to attending a funeral.

Although I will miss seeing everyone this evening, I look forward to meeting each of you very soon. I am honored to serve as principal of Owsley County Elementary and excited to work alongside our students, families, staff, and community to make our school the very best it can be.

I believe we have a wonderful school year ahead of us—one filled with learning, growth, achievement, and many memorable experiences for our students. Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to welcoming our Owls back to school!

Running season is upon us!

⛳️ Owls Golf Team Continues Strong Start to the Season ⛳️ The Owsley County Owls Golf Team put together another strong week of tournament play. On Thursday, the Owls competed in the Cardinal Classic at Winchester Country Club. Eelan Bobrowski-Hall led the way, firing a 2-under-par round to finish tied for 2nd place. Jordan McCoy and Lance Osborne also turned in solid performances for the Owls. On Friday, the team competed in the Shelby Valley Invitational at Raven Rock Golf Course in Jenkins. The Owls posted their best team performance of the young season with a 341 team score, finishing 6th overall in a competitive field. Jordan McCoy, Lance Osborne, Jared Napier, and Bryston Bowling each recorded their best tournament rounds of the season, highlighting the team’s continued improvement. At the conclusion of the second week of the season, Eelan Bobrowski-Hall is currently ranked 26th in the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association (KGCA) All-State points standings, an impressive accomplishment early in his freshman campaign. Both the Owls and Lady Owls will open Kentucky River Golf Conference play this Wednesday evening at Sag Hollow Golf Club. Go Owls! 🦉⛳

Owsley County Middle School Lady Owls had a tremendous season kick-off in the MOCO Mania middle school event this weekend matching up with some of the best middle school teams in state. Our 5-6 girls went 1-2 on the weekend picking up a huge win over Menifee County with Zuri Pittman collecting a Player of the Game Award. The 7-8 girls had a 2-2 record on the weekend with impressive wins over Menifee and Rowan County. Along the way Madi Cornett and Nala Pittman picked up Player of the Game Awards. If you haven't seen this talented group play, come out and support a tremendous group of student athletes. #ladyowlsbasketball

Our K-5 ELA teachers spent today strengthening their implementation of Amplify CKLA through collaborative professional learning. By investing in our teachers, we’re investing in stronger literacy instruction and greater success for every student.

⛳️ Owls Continue Strong Start at the Praxel Invitational ⛳️ The Owsley County Owls continued their strong start to the 2026 golf season yesterday at the Praxel Invitational, hosted by the Jackson County Generals at Battlefield Golf Club in Richmond. Freshman Eelan Bobrowski-Hall continued his impressive play, carding a 1-under-par 70 to finish 5th overall in a talented field of 100 golfers. Eighth-grader Lance Osborne and junior Jordan McCoy also represented the Owls well, with both golfers improving their scores from the team’s opening tournament—a testament to their continued hard work and development. After the first week of the season, Eelan is tied for 17th in the KHSAA all-state points standings, marking an outstanding start to his freshman campaign. The Owls will look to build on their early success this week as they compete at Winchester Country Club on Thursday and Raven Rock Golf Course on Friday. The OCHS Varsity Cheer team participated in a stunt clinic this afternoon! Our cheerleaders had the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques to improve their stunting knowledge, build confidence, and strengthen their routines. We are so proud of our athletes for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to continuing to grow as a team!

Our middle and high school ELA teachers spent today preparing for the new school year by digging into their curriculum, aligning reading and writing instruction, and planning meaningful learning experiences to support every student.

Owsley County Junior Golf Camp was a great success! Over the past three days, 24 junior golfers participated in our camp at Sag Hollow Golf Course. The camp focused on fundamentals, building confidence, learning a lifelong game, and competing with friends, creating a great experience for our future Owl and Lady Owl golfers. A special thank you to Scott Webb for leading instruction throughout the camp. We also appreciate Owsley County Girls Golf Coach Kyle Bobrowski and Owsley County Boys Golf Coach Randy Osborne for organizing the camp and assisting with instruction each day. Thank you to Sag Hollow Golf Course for allowing us to host this event and for supporting our young golfers.

Over the past few days, our newest Owls have been learning, exploring, making new friends, and getting comfortable with their new school. We are so proud of all they accomplished and can’t wait to welcome them back for their first day of kindergarten!

Our OCES students are making incredible progress in the Summer Learning Adventure, and several have already finished or are getting close to reaching the finish line!
