2nd Grade Reading Unit Celebration

The Fair is Coming!

Today in Mrs. Bishop’s, students became artifact investigators!
Working in collaborative groups, they examined mystery items from the past and practiced making evidence-based claims using the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) model. This engaging activity encouraged critical thinking, historical inquiry, and teamwork as we launched our unit.

Today we had our flag ceremony at OCES to remember those that sacrificed the ultimate price to give us our freedoms. Our flag was provided by the family of 1st grade student, Jackson Jenkins. Thank you to Joe Havicus and SRO Hudson, both veterans, for assisting us.

2nd & 4th traveled to EKU to watch "Ada Twist, Scientist" Ms. Greer’s classroom includes three inquisitive out-of-the-box thinkers. Ada Twist’s endless curiosity. Rosie Revere has big dreams. Iggy Peck has a relentless passion for architecture. But all three are needed to save the day when their fieldtrip goes awry! By using their engineering know-how and problem-solving skills, they are able to get everyone home safe and sound.

Mrs. Begley's class finished up their Unit by creating the Ring of Fire. The "Ring of Fire" is a region around the Pacific Ocean where a significant portion of Earth's volcanic and seismic activity occurs, forming a horseshoe-shaped pattern.
Sketchnotes allows students to process their thinking from new learning to
identify main ideas, supporting details, make connections within the material and
with previously learned content, and organize their learning. The use of images
(representations) helps students to increase connections in the brain as well as
provide a way of synthesizing the notes. This is an example of Sketchnotes by Miss Mattie Gambill in Mrs. Begley's class.
