📜✨ Our 5th grade students became historians! They researched Maya, Aztec, and Inca farming, social classes, and architecture—then turned their findings into a giant classroom codex. Come see their creativity on display! 🌎

This week, Mrs. McCoy's Algebra 1 and Mrs. Brewer's Algebra 2 classes enjoyed the new TI-Innovator Rovers, Hubs, & TI-Nspire calculators purchased by the PRI Grant under the direction of Mrs. Amy Dooley. Teachers were mentored by the systematic coach who also lead students through coding the devices to light up, make sounds, & "drive" around the classroom! Teachers intend to use the new technology more often to engage all students in fun and hands on learning experiences.

Today our 5th graders became Aztec engineers! 🌱 We learned about chinampas, also called “floating gardens.” The Aztecs built these by weaving reeds together, piling them with soil, and anchoring them in shallow lakes. These little man-made islands let them grow food right on the water—kind of like early hydroponics! To bring history to life, we recreated chinampas in class. Students used foil pans, popsicle sticks, colored sponges, and seeds to model the way the Aztecs farmed on water. Now we’ll watch to see if our “floating gardens” sprout! 🌿✨ Hands-on learning makes history unforgettable! 💡📚

Scenes from Owsley County classrooms this week: From the excitement of first graders diving into new stories and stamping their passports to explore similar tales from around the world, to the strum of ukulele lessons filling the room, to high school students tackling piecewise defined functions in Algebra-our classrooms are buzzing with learning at every level.
