Today at OCHS, Mrs. Smith led a reading of the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, while Mrs. Taylor's agriculture students cared for our plants and Mrs. Campbell's students revisited some reading standards during her Take Two reteaching groups.

Leslie Track Meet Results (from 5/2/24 meet)
-Sawyer Renfro: Ran in the 800m dash and got a PR in the 1600m.
-Aiden Day: ran in the 100m dash, 800m dash, and got a PR in the 400m dash.
-Sadie Nolan: participated in long jump, got a PR in shot put, ran the 100m dash, and got a PR in discus.
-Estrella Perez: participated in long jump, got a PR in the 100m dash, ran the 200m dash
-Kiley Taylor: got PR’s in the 100m dash, 200m dash, and 400m dash.










Oneida Track Meet results
The Owsley girls placed 2nd as a team.
Estrella Perez: placed 1st in the 4x100 relay, placed 3rd in the 100m dash, 3rd in the 200m dash, and 2nd in the long jump.
She was just a half an inch off from matching the long jump school record.
Katie Shipman: placed 1st in the 4x100 relay, got a PR in the long jump, placed 6th in the 100m dash, and placed 4th in the 200m dash.
Sadie Nolan: placed 1st in the 4x100 relay, got 2nd in the discus, 2nd in the shot put, and got a PR in the long jump.
Justice Nolan: got 1st place in the shot put with a new PR, and participated in the discus.
Brannon Nolan: participated in the discus and shot put.
Kiley Taylor: placed 1st in the 4x100 relay, placed 2nd in the 100m dash, got 2nd in the 200 m dash, placed 3rd in the 400m dash.
Sawyer Renfro: placed 7th in the 200m dash, and participated in the 1600m run.

OCHS Senior Decision Day was a great success! Thank you to all of the friends and family who joined us in celebrating our seniors' next steps.

This week, 7th grade science students in Mr. Lewis's class were able to dissect cow eyeballs as part of a science activity in collaboration with the 4-H Extension Office.

Today, 8th grade trip students took the Historic Tour through Mammoth Cave learning about the cave’s exploration, history of slave labor, the importance of the cave soil in the War of 1812 American gunpowder supply, and more. Special thanks to our trip bus driver, Mike Hall!



Today, OCHS 8th grade trip students were able to tour historical sites including My Old Kentucky Home. They also toured the Ky Railway Museum and enjoyed a train ride through the bluegrass before visiting the birthplace of Kentucky's most significant politician, Abraham Lincoln.



Senior, Landon Byrd, led the way for the Owls tonight as he picked up the win as the pitcher against Menifee County. Byrd also hit a home run to boost the offense.
The Owls have won 4 out of their last 5 games. Come cheer them on Monday night against the Barbourville Tigers.

Katie Beth Lucas retired from her position of Regional Treasurer tonight at the Kentucky River Region FFA Banquet. She did a phenomenal job of representing Owsley County during her year of service!

Great job to our Owsley County Track Team for their great performances at the Monday middle school meet held at North Laurel!
Sadie Nolan placed second in the discus.
Estrella Perez placed 4th in the long jump, and ran the 100m with a time of 16.14, with a time of 34.46.
Rory Mason ran the 100m with a time of 15.66, 200m with a time of 35.22, 400m with a time of 1:19, and 800m with a time of 3:15.
Kiley Taylor ran the 100m with a time of 15.20, 200m with a time of 33.35, and 400m with a time of 1:17.
Katie Shipman ran the 100m with a time of 17.63 and the 200m with a time of 38.53.







The 8th grade has recently studied the U.S. Civil War in Mr. Wagers' social studies class. Today, students on our 8th grade trip, were able to tour the Perryville Battlefield, learning about the impact of this battle on both Kentucky and U.S. history.

Congratulations to OCHS junior, Erick Craft, who was recently selected as a 2024 Kentucky Governor's Scholar!

A few of our OCHS seniors were able to tour HCTC's Lineman program today! It was a great experience for these students, as they are interested or planning on pursuing, this career path.

Owls Sophomore, Dylan Gay, picked up the win pitching tonight against Buckhorn and hit a home run.
Owls Freshman, Aiden Hardy, also hit a home run tonight in the JV game.
The Owls will be back in action tomorrow evening against the Berea Pirates.


After yesterday's etiquette class with 4-H Extension Agent, Carissa Miske, Mrs. Hall's and Mrs. Hisel's senior leadership students were able to practice today with a meal at Local Honey in London. Special thanks to Jenny Barrett and the FRYSC for sponsoring.
