Class of 2025 Senior Spotlight

Happy Easter

Our seniors have had an unforgettable week—exploring the history of Washington, D.C. and enjoying some well-deserved fun at Virginia Beach. They’ve been respectful, responsible, and an all-around wonderful group to travel with. Now they’re headed back to Booneville! A big thank you to G&M Tours for helping make this trip smooth, memorable, and easy to plan.

Our seniors soaked up the sun with a relaxing day at the beach, then enjoyed dinner and shopping on the boardwalk. They're ending their final night with friendly competition over card games!

Congrats to Lane Caudell! The last egg to be found was the prize egg. After the first round Mrs. McIntosh gave the hint -I knocked my brains out hiding it - students went back out, with Lane coming up with the prize.

Mrs. Ward was able to wrangle in the Easter Bunny! Big thanks to her and her super sweet daughter for bringing the bunny today!

Big shout out for Alexander Green for completing 82 dreambox lessons (school only) when our weekly goal is 15 and this awesome group for mastering time to the hour and 1/2 past & money (coins)!

Mrs. Begley's class finished up their Unit by creating the Ring of Fire. The "Ring of Fire" is a region around the Pacific Ocean where a significant portion of Earth's volcanic and seismic activity occurs, forming a horseshoe-shaped pattern.
Day 3 of our senior trip included the White House, Washington Monument, Natural and American History Smithsonian Museums, the African American Museum, the Pentagon, and the Air Force Memorial. We’ve now settled in at Virginia Beach for some fun in the sun!

Day two of our senior trip was packed with history and unforgettable sights! We toured the U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Arlington for the Changing of the Guard, Ford’s Theatre, Iowa Jima, and wrapped up with dinner and shopping at the Pentagon Mall!

Our seniors made it into Washington D.C. and began their first round of sightseeing. This evening’s guided tour included powerful stops at the Vietnam Wall, Lincoln Memorial, Korean Memorial, WWII Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, Washington Monument, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

Our seniors have hit the road! Wishing the Class of 2025 a fun and unforgettable trip — make the most of every moment!

The Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) will occur from May 9th through May 23rd for students in grades 6-11 at Owsley County Middle and High School.
Attendance is essential during this time. Please avoid scheduling appointments, and help your student be at their best by ensuring they get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and bring a charged Chromebook each day.

Sketchnotes allows students to process their thinking from new learning to
identify main ideas, supporting details, make connections within the material and
with previously learned content, and organize their learning. The use of images
(representations) helps students to increase connections in the brain as well as
provide a way of synthesizing the notes. This is an example of Sketchnotes by Miss Mattie Gambill in Mrs. Begley's class.

OCES students in grades 3-5 will be taking the Kentucky Summative Assessment May 9-May 15th. Please help us ensure strong attendance by avoiding appointments, tardies, or early checkouts during this important testing period.
Attendance and being on time are both critical to a successful testing experience. We appreciate your support in making sure students are present, on time, and ready to do their best each day.
