OCHS band students attending UK Honor Band
Allyson Montgomery, Brannon Nolan, Justice Nolan, and Timothy Smallwood represented Owsley County last week in Lexington. During the event, students rehearsed with other student musicians from across the state of KY, as well as some of UK’s own band members. The bands were under the direction of top music educators and directors in the nation. The wind ensemble was directed by Dr. Kevin Sedatole, from Michigan State University, and the concert band was directed by Dr. Susan Creasap, (retired) from Morehead State University. For one rehearsal, students were divided in sectionals and taught by UK instrumental music professors. They all got a taste of what life at UK in the music field would be like. A huge bonus for the weekend was a clinic and concert performance by world-renowned  musicians: Boston Brass. The event concluded with a performance of both honor bands, joined by the University of Kentucky Wind Symphony. Owsley students were pushed to perform at a distinguished level and rose to the challenge. I am so proud of this group of students and can’t wait to go back next year!
