Title I

Title I Survey

Overview

Title I, Part A is one of the many federal programs in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Title I, Part A provides formula grants to districts. Districts then allocate funds to Title I schools based on their number of low-income children.

The district must use Title I funds only in schools that have been selected for services through allowable procedures. Funds are used to improve student achievement in high poverty schools. The Title I, Part A Handbook contains comprehensive information about all Title I requirements for districts and schools.

In Owsley County, the Title I program works to help Owsley County High School and Owsley County Elementary School meet Kentucky's learning goals, attain Kentucky's academic core concepts, coordinate resources to improve education for all students and support school reform efforts.

Title I district money provides technical assistance to the schools and professional development for all staff. Title I funds also may be used for additional instructional staff, extended-time programs and other means of raising student achievement in high-poverty schools.
